Nevada Cautions Licensed Casinos About Online Gambling

June 22nd, 2010

Nevada Gaming Control Board is telling holders of state licenses to take a rain check on online gambling projects at least for the time being. A letter written to a lawyer (whose name was not disclosed) by Board member Randall Sayre was published on the Board website recently. In this letter, Randall advises that clients must be asked to avoid doing business with Internet casino operators.

In the letter he states that the agreements between licensees and unlicensed online gambling sites were not in agreement with the Nevada Gaming Control Act.

At present, Harrah’s entertainment has launched created its own Internet gaming outfit. Several other land based casinos are said to be negotiating with established online casinos in an attempt to get a head start in the online gambling industry when the US Internet gambling market is opened.

Sayre stated in his letter that relationships between licensees and online gambling sites are being investigated by Board regulators at present therefore it would be a wise decision, from both a state and federal perspective, for Nevada casinos to avoid connections with Internet gambling.

Harrah’s has acquired its online gaming software from 888 and therefore the board is reviewing whether it meets rules to do business with a licensee.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has stated that this would be the first time ever that an online gambling operator who had accepted wagers from US residents may be accepted for business relations in Nevada.
